This place is gone now. What was most puzzling about this is that there were three other awnings here and “STEINWAY” was spelled correctly on those. I don’t think I’d want to live on Stainway Street, though it looks to be a more common typo than I would have expected. Insert your own “Hershey Highway” joke…

The palimpsest left by the missing letters on this sign don’t do much to clue me in to its original meaning. Maybe it meant that “SERVECES” would begin minutes after a candle lighting? Wither the meaning of “GooN IN HIM“, with a tear drop falling from the second O?

Or maybe these letters are just taking a break. It’s exhausting to be a letter in a word that actually makes sense, so once in a while letters like to cut loose and make some chaos like they did on this little sign in Astoria.

I don’t know what these words mean exactly, but this sign was outside a mosque, which would have a prayer room. The stray sequence of exclamation points gives the chaos of this brief attempt at a statement a bit of random glee.
